Reimagining Opera for Kids is a non-profit community arts and education organization based in Bloomington, Indiana. Since 2007, ROK has commissioned and sourced a unique repertoire of opera designed for young audiences. Our goals are to introduce children and youth to opera through free or accessibly subsidized performances and curriculum guides, and to give musicians the opportunity to hone and share their performance skills through community engagement.

ROK is excited to announce an ongoing partnership with the Metropolitan Opera to bring the Met’s Live in HD broadcasts to area schools! Through this program, teachers are provided with free access to the Met's curricular materials and resources, and their students are invited to the Met’s performances and other “Day Out” activities on the day of the live broadcasts. To check your school or program's eligibility to participate in the partnership, contact us!
Led by Kimberly Carballo, ROK is a community partner in service learning for Indiana University students, as well as a home performing troupe for community singers and instrumentalists of all ages. ROK has been enthusiastically received in Indiana elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as public libraries, home-school groups, hospitals, and community centers.  ROK is grateful for these partners and those who support our work in the region, including a growing partnership with the Jacobs School of Music and the IU Center for Rural Engagement, and several seasons' of support from the City of Bloomington Arts Commission.  Click here for a complete list of our community supporters!

Black lives matter.

As an organization, ROK is striving to know better and do better.

As artists, we hear, see, and lift up our siblings of color.

And as human beings, we sing out that we must reimagine not only what our art form can be, but much more; what our society must be, locally, nationally, and globally.

This project was made possible in part by support from The Puffin Foundation West.
Activities are made possible in part by the Brown County Community Arts Foundation, and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.
