ROK's 7th Season

THE FIREBRINGERS
A ROK Commission
Premiered Season 2014-15

Composed by Chappell Kingsland
Libretto by Ben Allen-Kingsland
Stage Directed by Amanda Russo

THE FIREBRINGERS takes us on a journey around the world to explore the fire myths of three different cultures: first, “Rainbow Crow,” from the Lenapé Indians of North America; then, the story of Prometheus from Ancient Greek mythology; and, finally, “Murilé and the Moon-Chief,” from the Chagga of Kenya and Tanzania.  Fasten your seatbelt, it's time for take-off!

Appropriate for all K-5 audiences and families | Sung in English | Performance length: approx. 30 minutes
DIDO AND AENEAS
A ROK Adaptation
Premiered Season 2014-15

Composed by Henry Purcell
Libretto by Nahum Tate
Stage Directed by Laurie Staring

In this modern adaptation of DIDO AND AENEAS, Dido is the Queen of Carthage High School.  When evil forces conspire to separate Dido from her love, Aeneas, the pain is too much to bear, and even her good friends cannot console her.  This tragic cautionary tale serves as a wonderful vehicle for talking with young people about love, friendship, and how to deal with feelings of isolation and depression.

Appropriate for middle schoolers, high schoolers, and families | Sung in English | Performance length: approx. 30 minutes

Black lives matter.

As an organization, ROK is striving to know better and do better.

As artists, we hear, see, and lift up our siblings of color.

And as human beings, we sing out that we must reimagine not only what our art form can be, but much more; what our society must be, locally, nationally, and globally.

This project was made possible in part by support from The Puffin Foundation West.
Activities are made possible in part by the Brown County Community Arts Foundation, and the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts.
