THE LUNCHBOX PROJECT
A ROK Commission
Premiered Season 2018-19

Composed by Lauren Bernofsky, Malcolm Dalglish, Rosey Lee, Chris Neiner, Yuriria
Rodríguez, and Wilson Shitandi
Libretto by Alejandra Martinez
Stage Directed by Satsu Holmes

THE LUNCHBOX PROJECT uses traditional music as the setting to explore the many cultures revealed in our lunchboxes.  Students' own stories will be integrated into performances, as they will be able to submit poems about their lunchboxes, which cast members will select - and sing! - during the opera.  This interactive experience will create meaningful connections between students as they celebrate the uniqueness, and recognize the similarities, of their cultures.

Appropriate for all ages, best for elementary schoolers and families | Sung in English |
Performance length: approx. 25 minutes

Black lives matter.

As an organization, ROK is striving to know better and do better.

As artists, we hear, see, and lift up our siblings of color.

And as human beings, we sing out that we must reimagine not only what our art form can be, but much more; what our society must be, locally, nationally, and globally.
