Bring the arts into YOUR community - wherever you are!
In 2014, ROK ED Kim Carballo began grant-funded research to track and discover like-minded organizations, which engage with communities in accessible ways via the arts. In 2021, we revisited the project to update and refine our data through a national survey, with research done by Caroline Goodwin. The results of this most recent revision are reflected in the first interactive map below. The second map is a summary of the original work, researched by Martha Eason, Satsu Holmes, and Alex Nelson.
The maps indicate a national distribution of community engagement programs: those tied to professional opera companies (blue), those tied to institutions of higher education (red), and those that operate as independent organizations (yellow).
